Master of Arts in TESOL

Course Requirements

Through Ohio Dominican's TESOL program, you will learn, collaborate, teach and reflect. The program balances theory and practice, so you'll be prepared to study, conduct and share unique research into the teaching and learning of English.

Graduation Requirements - All TESOL Programs

  • For the Master of Arts degree only, candidates must complete 33 semester hours of TSL courses with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.000 or higher.
  • For the Master of Arts degree with Licensure, candidates must complete a total of 42 semester hours (39 semester hours of TSL courses— including student teaching—and 3 semester hours in EDU 518) with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.000 or higher. No more than two (2) grades of C may be earned. The repeat of a third C is permitted once.282
  • All MA candidates must take TSL 500: TESOL Foundations and TSL 590M: TESOL Practicum at Ohio Dominican University.
  • All licensure candidates must take TSL 500: TESOL Foundations and TSL 590L: Student Teaching at Ohio Dominican University
  • Students must complete their program within seven (7) years.
  • Students must complete an Application for Graduation according to the dates published in the Academic Calendar. (Application forms are available through ODU Online.)
  • Students must make satisfactory payment of all tuition, graduation fee, library fines and other financial obligations.

Students seeking to qualify for the TESOL Multi-Age Licensure only (without earning the Master of Arts degree) must complete the following courses - 36 credit hours.

Transfer credit may be accepted, but at least five courses, including TSL 500, TSL 540, TSL 560, and TSL 590L, must be taken at ODU. 

Before applying for a license, the student must pass the appropriate Praxis II / Ohio Assessment for Educators (OAE) examinations.
